Families of 3 patients who died waiting for transplants want to keep doctor from destroying evidence

In Houston, Texas, the families of three individuals who passed away while awaiting liver transplants are urging for legal action against Dr. John Steve Bynon, the physician implicated in the organ transplant controversy at Memorial Hermann hospital.

Initially brought to light by The New York Times, allegations surfaced accusing Dr. Bynon of tampering with a database to obstruct patients from receiving vital liver transplants. Following this revelation, the hospital swiftly removed Dr. Bynon from his position overseeing the liver and kidney transplant program pending an investigation into purported “inappropriate activity.” Subsequently, the hospital suspended the transplant program altogether.

In response to these developments, the families of the deceased individuals have announced their pursuit of a court order against Dr. Bynon to safeguard potential evidence from deletion or destruction during the ongoing investigation. They intend to address their grievances during a scheduled press conference on Wednesday at 3 p.m., where their legal representatives will explore whether the deceased patients were unjustly denied liver transplants.
