Teacher’s family ‘shocked,’ ‘baffled’ by allegations of sexual assault

The attorney representing the family of a Texas teacher accused of aggravated sexual assault of a minor has expressed their bewilderment and shock regarding the allegations. David Goggins, who currently teaches in the Northwest Independent School District and previously worked in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, as stated by the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department.

Upon notification from the sheriff’s office on Tuesday, the Northwest ISD promptly placed Goggins on administrative leave and restricted his access to school premises. Tricia Lutkenhaus, principal of Pike Middle School within the Northwest ISD, informed parents via a letter that the allegations against Goggins originated in another school district and were brought forward by a student this year. The district asserted that they were unaware of the accusations prior to this week.

In the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District (EMSISD), parents of students at Marine Creek Middle School received a message regarding an investigation into inappropriate conduct. The district clarified that Goggins has not been associated with the district since the 2021-2022 academic year, and due to the ongoing investigation, they could not disclose further details.

Specifics of the allegations were not disclosed by either district or the sheriff’s department.

David Goggins is being represented by the law firm Varghese Summersett, which conveyed on behalf of his family their astonishment and perplexity at the claims. The family urged the public to reserve judgment until all facts have been clarified.

“David and his family were shocked by his arrest and the accusations against him. He has an exemplary record as a teacher and is highly regarded by his students and colleagues, who are equally baffled by these claims,” stated Goggin’s defense team. “We are conducting our own investigation in the hopes of uncovering the real motivation behind these allegations.”

According to county records, Goggins was ordered held on a bond of $250,000. As of the latest update, he was not listed as an inmate at the county jail.
