Family of young mother found beaten to death inside bedroom closet demands justice

Disturbing details have emerged in the tragic murder case of 27-year-old Corinna Johnson, whose body was found inside a closet at an apartment complex on West Wheatland Road in Dallas.

Dallas police made the grim discovery early Monday morning after receiving a report from a witness in Garland. According to an arrest affidavit, Johnson was found wrapped in bedding and had been bludgeoned to death.

Omar Lucio, 34, has been charged with Johnson’s murder. Family members revealed that Johnson and Lucio had been in a relationship.

The arrest affidavit details that a female witness, described as a “friend with benefits” of Lucio, reported to the police after he confessed to assaulting Johnson. Lucio allegedly admitted to “laying hands” on Johnson, causing her to lose consciousness. The witness convinced Lucio to return to his apartment, where she found Johnson lying on the bathroom floor with severe injuries.

Although the witness initially hesitated to report the incident, she eventually came forward hours later. Police in Garland then contacted Dallas police, leading to Lucio’s arrest.

Upon apprehension, Lucio reportedly cooperated with police and confessed to having a temper. However, he did not provide an explanation for how Johnson ended up in the closet.

Johnson’s family described her as a vibrant and loving person. They expressed deep grief over her loss and called for justice for her death. Multiple family members revealed that they had warned Johnson about Lucio’s abusive behavior in the past.

Johnson leaves behind a 7-year-old son, and her family is devastated by the impact of her loss on him.

The family expressed gratitude to the witness who came forward, allowing police to recover Johnson’s body and arrest Lucio.

Lucio is currently in custody with bonds totaling $1.5 million for murder and an unrelated case involving street racing and a crash. He has a history of criminal offenses dating back to 2007, including assault and rape cases in Houston.

In response to the unexpected funeral expenses, Johnson’s family is organizing fundraisers, including a “Justice for Cory” event and a verified GoFundMe account to help cover costs.
