River Oaks street sees back-to-back SWAT scenes in 2 weeks

Neighbors have witnessed two SWAT incidents within a fortnight along the same quiet street in Houston, an area not accustomed to such police activity.

On Thursday evening, law enforcement executed a felony warrant arrest for an individual allegedly making threats against officers and a judge.

More than twenty officers from various agencies converged on Welch Street in River Oaks, prompting curiosity among onlookers unaccustomed to such scenes in their neighborhood. This marked the second visit within two weeks for the same individual.

According to HPD Lt. Larry Crowson, the suspect reportedly faced two retaliation warrants for threatening his parole officer and a judge, along with expressing intentions to shoot officers if they attempted to arrest him.

The substantial police presence, including SWAT teams from Precinct 1 and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, was precautionary.

Although the suspect’s identity remained undisclosed on Thursday night, neighbors expressed a mix of curiosity and reassurance about their safety.

Chris Bridgewater, a resident, shared, “I still feel safe, just as safe as I can be in Houston.”

Fortunately, the arrest proceeded without incident, and there were no reported injuries.
