Suspect with knife killed in Arlington officer-involved shooting

Arlington police are currently investigating a shooting involving an officer that occurred Thursday evening in the 2700 block of Lawrence Road, near Collins Street and NE Green Oaks Boulevard.

According to Arlington PD, the incident unfolded after they received a 911 call reporting a stabbing at an apartment complex in the vicinity shortly before 5 p.m. Upon arrival, officers observed an adult male looking out of a window, prompting them to establish a perimeter around the area. The man subsequently emerged from the apartment holding a knife.

Despite commands from officers to lower his weapon, the man failed to comply and began advancing toward them. In response, an officer discharged their firearm, striking the suspect. Although he initially fell to the ground, the man quickly got up and fled, prompting officers to pursue him. During the chase, the suspect turned around, brandishing his knife at the officers, which led to another shot being fired by the same officer.

Despite being tased by a second officer during the pursuit, the suspect continued to flee. Upon being apprehended and handcuffed, it was discovered that he had sustained gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were called to the scene and transported the man to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed.

Subsequent investigations revealed no victims inside the apartment mentioned in the initial 911 call, and no stabbing victims have been reported at local hospitals. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of both criminal and internal affairs investigations. Body camera footage capturing the incident will be released at a later date, as stated by the police department.
